Two Really Big Days

This is me now, writing this up in the land of Beatrix Potter, The Lake District, to tell of our two really big days.

We took off out of London early on Easter Sunday, after another breaky at Gail's, and decided to stop in at Windsor Castle (on the suggestion of Mike) - I'd never been.  IT WAS AWESOME.  It was Easter Sunday and all the royals were there for the Easter Sunday service, but alas, we were not able to spot King Chuckles.  We did, however, discover an AMAZING brasserie called The Ivy, for a spot of Easter brunch which you can see below.  It was so fabulous - silver teapots and GORGEOUS toilets.

We went for a wander around, then hit the road for Mike's second suggestion - Stonehenge.  To avoid the queues of 40 billion people, we trekked it out 2 miles and back with the other squadillion people who couldn't be bothered waiting on the ticket queue to get the bus out.  It was pretty cool.

Then Bath.  Beautiful, but packed with tourists. Liss and I did a tour in the Jane Austen Centre - it was really terrible, then wandered around, headed for a Sunday Roast at the place we were staying - DELICIOUS - then an after dinner walk saw us sauntering around the gorgeous Royal Crescent and the town.

Today, we were up early to hit the road for another big day.  We stopped at Stratford-Upon-Avon (birthplace of Shakespeare) for a bit of culture - which really meant scones and a photo outside Willy's two houses.  Liss was pretty chuffed.

After that, we hit the road through GLORIOUS countryside for something very special - we dropped in for afternoon tea with Annabelle's great grandparents in Sheffield.  This was the first time she was meeting them.  It was SO SO SO FANTASTIC.  We really had a special afternoon, and there were tears when we said goodbye.  Sigh.  Beautiful afternoon.

A couple more hours through changing scenery and we're now in the Lake District. It's sleep time.  We're all knackered.  Mike did an INCREDIBLE job of getting us here today - he is a true Travelicious Legend.

Sometimes the Plan Doesn't Come Together

That's what I had for lunch in the local town.  And Mike's now famous "old cheese roll" is hidden there at the back.  We have had hours of fun and laughter about Mike's lunch.  It was shit. And so was mine.  Cody's was ok.  And there was no food for Roses.  But never fear - a visit to the supermarket (that included lollies, chocolate, chips, Fanta, and pancake mix - both gf and normal) made everything better! Let me go back a step.   We woke up to pouring rain this morning, and then our we-plan-as-we-go fell a bit to pieces today.  We tried to find a trekking hut or cabin for the tonight about 25km south, but it's the long weekend here, and nothing was available.  Luckily, the nice people here in our palace let us stay here again tonight - so we had a day of washing clothes, shopping, watching movies, laughing, eating - and I made another spag bol for dinner.  YUM YUM.   We have a new plan for tomorrow and a trekkin...

WE FREAKING DID IT - 686km in 22 Days!!!

Well, sportsfans, we did it.  We actually did it.  From Amsterdam to Villers Allerand - 686km in 22 days.  So much laughter, so many crazy moments, so many great places to stay, so many terrible places to stay!  Such amazing food.  So many funny moments.  So many swearing moments.  Rain, hail, snow, sun, freezing temperatures, very cold cabins, cobblestones, mud, water, grass, lots of fields, AMAZING SCENERY, INCREDIBLE CHEESES, and a shitload of FUN!!!! It's hard not to get philosophical, but that could get really boring, so instead, here are some pics and moments from our last day on the bike - 48 crazy km, including the longest 2km of our whole trip - the last 2km, on the "country" track between the champagne vines coming into Villers - it took us over an hour to get through it!  INSANE ending to and INSANE TRIP!  Our final breakfast - feeling happy and sad at the same time Bikes packed and ready to go for the final hurrah! Final mo...
